Are there any restrictions on becoming a Security Guard?
If you want to work as a Security Guard and apply for a Security Licence:
- You need to be at least 18 years old at date of application
- You must complete the Certificate II in Security Operations training course
- You must not pose a risk to public safety – a Criminal History check will be done
(there are restrictions regarding past convictions which vary from state to state)
Do I need a qualification to work as a Security Guard?
Yes. In order to work as a Security Guard, you need a suitable qualification and licence. The completion of one of the nationally recognised accredited online courses with certificates is a prerequisite for getting a Security Guard Licence. Most likely, you’ll need to complete the Certificate II in Security Operations. However, the units you need to study depend on each state’s requirements. Please contact us for details.
How do I get a Security Licence?
In order to apply for a Security Licence, you need to visit the relevant authority’s website and check whether you have satisfied their requirements. If you believe you satisfy all the requirements, you need to lodge your application, together with your supporting documents, to the relevant licensing body.

What type of Security Licences are available?
There are different kinds of Security Licences in each state and territory that depend on your role. As an example, the licence requirements for an unarmed guard are different to an armed guard. Do security licenses expire?
Yes, Security Licences have an expiry date. Your licence can be valid for 1 to 5 years depending on the licence and state or territory where you live. Also, you need to make sure that your First Aid certificate is valid because it’s a core requirement for a Security Guard Licence – the CPR component of your First Aid course must be renewed every 12 months. In addition, you always need to renew your licence before the expiry date.
What accredited online courses with certificates are suitable for me?
We have a range of accredited online courses with certificates for Security Guards, but it really depends on your level of experience within the industry. For example, if you want to start a career in the Security Industry, you need to get your Security Licence by completing a Certificate II in Security Operations.
On the other hand, if you already have a Security Licence but want to develop your skills, work independently (without supervision) or move to a supervisor role, then a Certificate III in Security Operations is suitable. For people with abundant experience in the Security Industry who want to move into positions related to managing risk, a Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management or a Diploma of Security and Risk Management are good options.
What is a Security Licence course?
A Security Licence course allows you to satisfy the training requirements specified by different licensing authorities in each state. The best way to be successful in your application for a license is to complete the Certificate II in Security Operations. Due to the different requirements in each state, the units of study will vary.
What if I relocate frequently around Australia?
Due to the fact that each state and territory has their own licensing bodies, you’ll need to fulfil their specific requirements when you relocate and apply for your licence. It’s likely that the accredited online courses with certificates you have already completed will fulfil these requirements, as some licensing bodies recognise licences registered in other states or territories. Who can work as a cleaner?
To work as a cleaner, you need a certain level of cleaning knowledge and skills, along with an enjoyment of practical work and the ability to bend, stand and lift.
Do I need qualifications to be a cleaner?
No, for basic cleaning duties there are no formal requirements regarding your education and training background. However, if you don’t complete one of the available accredited online courses with certificates, you may not gain employment. This is because your potential employer will have to provide training for you to safely handle chemicals. Therefore, completing a Certificate II in Cleaning Operations will certainly help you stand out when applying for jobs.
What are the differences between different cleaning courses?
Certificate II in Cleaning Operations is designed for those who have no or little prior experience in the cleaning industry and want to gain some practical cleaning skills and knowledge.
Certificate III in Cleaning Operations is aimed at providing experienced cleaners with more skills and knowledge in order to help them proceed to a manager or supervisor role.
Certificate IV in Cleaning Management is a combination of cleaning, business and management units. It’s suitable for supervisors or potential supervisors who want to learn how to plan, organise and arrange cleaning tasks from a management’s perspective.
Who can benefit from a qualification in Business or Management?
A qualification in Business or Management is not only for people working in an office environment. As long as your job involves dealing with customers, prioritising tasks or frequent communications with others, then a qualification in Business or Management will be beneficial. That’s because these qualifications not only equip you with Business or Management skills, they also help you complete your work more effectively and efficiently.
What certificate level is suitable for me?
This depends on your individual needs, as there are no prerequisites for each level. For the Level II certificate in Business, you’ll learn basic business skills and knowledge. This includes creating a simple document and using technologies to facilitate communications. For the Level III certificate, you’ll learn about spreadsheets, organising information, prioritising tasks, and more. For Level IV, more complex skills are learnt, such as implementing service standards, undertaking project work, analysing and presenting information, organising meetings, and more.

What is logistics?
Logistics is the management of the flow of goods or materials from the point of origin (often a manufacturing plant) to the point of consumption (often customers). This can include post offices handling mail and parcels, for example, or supermarkets handling the transit of goods and products. Learning about logistics helps you efficiently organise the most cost-effective movement of goods between locations for your employer.
What is Warehousing and Supply Chain Operations?
Warehousing and supply chain operations concerns the efficient storage of goods, prior to being sold or distributed. The most common example of warehousing is a supermarket’s storage area where products are stored before being placed on shelves. Learning about warehousing operations enables you to know more about organising goods, displaying goods on the shelves, using a forklift and more.
